Then February 24, 24. The first expedition cruise from Vladivostok to the city of Korsakov in the south of Sakhalin Island will appear this year. The cruise is opened by Russian tour operator Panarctic Star, said Vadim Mamontov, general director of travel company Russia Discovery, head of the Russian Travel Industry Union’s commission on adventure tourism.
“A new operator has been added, from this year a new program with very interesting content will appear. This is Panarctic Star, our Russian company, which this year will cruise from Vladivostok to Korsakov on the ship Akademik Shokalsky with a stopover at the island of Moneron (43 km from the southwest coast of Sakhalin). And two cruises will be made in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, “said Mamontov, reviewing existing and promising expedition routes in the Far East during the session “Cruises of the future: what does the Russian cruise market expect?” business program of the “Beringia-2022” festival.
He noted that new proposals are appearing due to the growing demand for Far East cruises. Interest in sea travel, he says, is not just about pent-up demand. Mamontov clarified that many foreign companies have recently moved the starting point of routes to Alaska, which makes it difficult for Russian tourists to travel – they need a US visa.
Before the start of the pandemic, cruise ships carrying foreign tourists came to Vladivostok. In 2019, 17 ocean liners entered the port, on which 28,000 people visited the city. In 2020, the tourist flow decreased by 80%.
The traditional dog sled race “Beringia” has been held in Kamchatka since 1990. It will be held on March 6-7 in the village of Esso, Bystrinsky district. The mushers will meet at the finish line in Ossor, Karaginsky district, presumably from March 28 to April 1. The length of the route will be 1,000 kilometers. The festival of the same name began on Saturday, from February 24, the business forum “Far East – Winter of Discoveries” begins, on March 4 the exhibition “Fabulous Kamchatka” opens.
