Swedish tour operator Detur shuts down operations, leaving passengers stranded at home and abroad

Detur announces that operations will be halted for the remainder of 2022

Much-criticized travel agency Detur is canceling all operations for 2022. The company justifies its decision by saying a “restart” is needed.

In Sundsvall, a bus with 50 people has to go home since Detur canceled their flight. And travelers who were due to fly from Gothenburg to Crete tomorrow have been told by email that there will be no travel.

During the day, several media reported how travelers from Detur to Turkey are required to pay from their hotels even though they have already paid for a package tour. From several sources, it appears that hotels are locking guests out of rooms if they don’t pay.

The testimonies come from, among other places, Alanya, where fights between guests and hotel staff broke out after Detur guests were asked to pay for their rooms themselves.

In a written statement, Detur confirms that due to, among other things, failing travel documents, fuel costs, inflation and the Ukrainian war, Detur has elected to proceed with a reorganization and a ” restart” in order to “better face future challenges in the best way”.

This in turn means that business processes and activities”will be paused for a period” and that “the remainder of the 2022 rental season will be canceled.”
