Rail Europe suspends the sale of tourist packages and resigns from the USTOA

Rail Europe North America Inc. has suspended the sale of tour packages after a “change in its business model” and, therefore, is no longer an active member of USTOA as of January 31, 2021.

“Our company has refocused its business on the sale of European rail tickets and passes in the B2B and B2C markets and no longer sells package tours. As a result, the company is no longer eligible as a member tour operator,” Laurent said. Tonnellier, managing director of business in North and South America at Rail Europe.

Rail Europe, Inc. began in 1932 as a North American distributor of European rail products, providing point-to-point tickets and rail passes for train travel in Europe. Today, it belongs to the Parisian entity Rail Europe SAS, which is part of the French National Railway Company (SNCF). The company offers rail passes including the Eurail pass, train tickets and sightseeing passes.

As a result, Rail Europe North America Inc. is no longer participating in the USTOA Million Dollar Traveler Assistance Program.

“Travel agents should be aware that purchases of Rail Europe North America Inc. products made prior to January 31, 2021 will continue to be protected under the USTOA’s Million Dollar Traveler Assistance Program. Customer deposits and payments thereafter will not be covered by the USTOA program,” advises USTOA President and CEO Terry Dale.

Laurent also stated: “The Rail Europe office in North America is fully committed to serving its customers: tour operators, travel agencies, consortia, partners and consumers. Rail Europe provides a full range of technologies to connect to Europe’s largest rail inventories.

Rail Europe North America Inc. has been a partner since 1994 and is pleased that the company remains a member of the association as an associate member.

“Although the new business model changes our current affiliate status with the USTOA, we are pleased to continue the relationship as an associate member,” said Tonnellier.
