- Guides have the opportunity to shape the experience of visitors to Qatar
- All fees are waived by Qatar Tourism for 2022
In anticipation of an influx of visitors to Qatar later this year and given the longer-term vision of the tourism sector to attract 6 million visitors per year by 2030, Qatar Tourism (QT) calls on the people of Qatar to join the growing number of tourist guides in the sector. Those interested will receive the necessary training and receive an official license to work with tourist companies in Qatar and organize guided tours around the country.
Training continues on an ongoing basis and the number of licensed tour guides has more than doubled since October last year. Applicants must be over 21 years of age and hold a valid Qatar ID card to be eligible for the program. The training is available in English and Arabic, and candidates with diverse language abilities are encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted online via www.qatartourism.com/en/industry-resources/e-services/tour-guides. For this year, and in an effort to encourage adoption of the program, QT has waived all fees related to training, licensing and exams.
Completing the program, tour guides will be able to help visitors navigate everything from the country’s cultural highlights to foodie favourites; tips and tricks for business travelers on luxury and leisure must-haves; family favorites to adrenaline-pumping adventures. The tour guide training and licensing initiative is one of several initiatives that have been introduced by QT to raise the standard of tour service providers and further regulate the tourism sector.
