On our radar: Famous tour guide for showcasing some of Coquitlam’s LGBTQ+ history

Glenn Tkach, a historian of Metro Vancouver’s queer community, is about to speak about the “request” for diversity at Mackin House.

Did you know October is LGBTQ+ History Month?

Established nearly 30 years ago, it was created to celebrate and recognize the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements around the world.

Next Wednesday (October 19), Coquitlam Heritage will host a free special presentation on the local queer community and invite the public to meet a well-known historian who will be in attendance.

Glenn Tkach created the Really Gay History Tour five years ago with Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours.

Since then, the storyteller and podcast host has spent countless hours guiding and educating thousands of people in hopes of developing an understanding of the region’s LGBTQ+ history.

Tkach is also launching a YouTube channel documenting Vancouver’s queer community, known as Requeering History.

The Coquitlam Heritage presentation is scheduled for October 19 from 7-8 p.m. at Mackin House (1116 Brunette Avenue) and light refreshments will be served during the presentation.

As space is limited, interested attendees – ages 12 and up – are encouraged to pre-register for the free event.
