KOCHI: In order to give impetus to the tourism sector which is gradually recovering from the slump induced by the pandemic, the Responsible Tourism Mission (RTM) under the Directorate of Tourism has decided to resume the village life experience packages. The RTM is now ready to welcome travelers to villages across the state.

All actors involved in the packages, including family members of actors aged 18 or over, were vaccinated before the reopening of the sector, said RTM state coordinator K Rupesh Kumar. The resumption of tourist packages in the villages follows the commitment made by Minister of Tourism P Mohamed Riyas, who announced the first phase of the opening of the sector after visiting the destinations in Kottayam last week.

As part of the Village Tourism Experiences, tourists will be taken to various destinations and introduced to village vocations such as coconut leaf weaving, mat weaving, different types of traditional village fishing techniques and toddy tapping. Also, visitors will have the opportunity to take selfies from coconut trees. This will ensure additional revenue for stakeholders by providing visitors with a first-hand experience as well as exploiting the market potential of their vocations.
